The Directorate of Health, Population
and Hospital Reform of the wilaya of
Algiers offers more than 70,000 doses
of influenza vaccine for the 2017-2018
season, said yesterday, Saturday,
Mohamed Miraoui, Director of Health.
As part of the campaign to fight
seasonal influenza that will be
launched on Sunday, the wilaya of
Algiers has 70,380 doses of influenza
vaccine to be distributed among the 22
polyclinics and the 10 local public
health establishments (EPSP) of the
wilaya of Algiers, said Miraoui to the
APS. Vaccination is recommended for
vulnerable people exposed to seasonal
influenza complications, including those
aged 65 years and over, chronic
patients with cardiovascular disease,
acute respiratory illness, diabetes,
obesity or renal insufficiency, and
than for pregnant women. The
Ministry of Health had announced the
Pasteur Institute's importation of 2.5
million doses of the influenza vaccine,
with the possibility of introducing
additional doses if necessary. Often
thought to be benign, its development
may be complicated by a particular
virulence of the virus or because of
the fragility of the people affected,
hence the need to strengthen
prevention. Only 15 cases of acute
influenza were reported, while the
Ministry did not report any deaths
from the year 2015-2016, when 300
cases of acute influenza were reported
causing 30 deaths.
